Are you on a losing streak?

Are you on a losing streak?

We’ve all been there when playing – we’ve bet a few times and then we win, or worse, we lose. And then it seems it won’t get good again. So what’s happening when we experience this? Well, it’s luck at the end of the day, but we’ll explore a little more in this article to shed some more light on it.

What is a winning streak or a losing streak?

We’ll start off by examining what each one of these phenomena is. A winning streak is when you win, and win…and win! Things are looking up and like they’re only going to get better from here. For players on a winning streak, they want to keep playing because it’s going very well.

For players on a losing streak, it’s much the opposite. They’re hoping for that big win, but no matter what they do, it isn’t happening! They’re cursing their bad luck, and right there they have hit the nail on the head – it’s luck.

Can a losing streak affect my play?

In short – no. A losing streak is a way of saying that you simply are not winning right now. However, as free online slots are provably fair, the RTP (Return To Player) of each slot game is public knowledge, and the game is determined by a RNG (Random Number Generator). So what does this mean for players chasing their winning streak?

The likelihood that you will win is determined at random – there are plenty of ways to win during a slot game, such as by matching symbols in certain ways, but that doesn’t mean that those symbols will always appear when you want them. However, this is just a fact of play – it’s all down to chance and sadly that doesn’t always work in our favour.

It’s for this reason we can say that, in a way, a losing streak isn’t “real” – it’s something that you can experience, but it’s just a series of unlucky draws or spins. It’s not something that is constructed or which you can break, as the play is always determined in slots by the random number generator.

How does the RTP affect this?

The RTP is the “return to player” ratio of a game. It means that on average, over time, a player can expect to get a certain percentage of their money back. This is often provably fair and regulated by licensing. Obviously, this number will not affect every play that you make, as it’s just an average figure over time. However, if a game has an RTP of 96%, this means that players can see on average a 96% return on any money they play. A losing streak or winning streak however just means you’ve hit an unlucky (or lucky!) set of plays.

How can I stop a losing streak?

We would never recommend that you chase after a winning streak or that you keep playing to try and “break” a losing streak. However, there are a few things you can try to make your time playing just a bit more enjoyable.

You can give another game a try – perhaps you’d like to try a different style of slot, or switch to a card game like blackjack instead of slots, or vice versa. If nothing else, this gives you a fresh start to play with a new outlook. You can be less focused on what happened before, and just get straight into enjoying the game again.

Another alternative is to keep playing the same casino game, but to remember that the wins and losses are controlled by the RNG and aren’t related to your playstyle or what has happened in the game so far. If you remember this, then you can easily decide whether you want to continue with the game right now.

Losing streaks shouldn’t affect your enjoyment

Gambling should be fun – if you’ve hit a streak of bad luck, there’s sadly not a lot you can do about it. It’s understandably really frustrating – but the best thing to do is to switch your activity or to give the games a small break until you think your luck’s looking up later on!
